Ezekiel 41

1 Then the man took me into the room in the centre, the Holy Place. He measured the entrance to it. It was three (3) metres deep 2 and five (5) metres wide. The walls on either side were two and a half (2½) metres thick. The room itself measured twenty (20) metres long and ten (10) metres wide. ^{▼▼41:2 As Ezekiel was a priest, he could enter the Holy Place.}

3 Then he measured the passage that went to the inside room. He went in. It was one metre long and three (3) metres wide. The walls on either side were three and a half (3½) metres thick. 4 The room measured ten (10) metres square. It was behind the Holy Place. ‘This is the Most Holy Place’, he said to me. ^{▼▼41:4 The man did not take Ezekiel into the most Holy Place. Ezekiel was a priest but only the chief priest could go into this room.}

5 Then the man measured the wall of the temple. It was three (3) metres thick. They had built rooms two metres wide all round the temple. They were against the wall. 6 Three (3) rooms were on top of each other. They were all round the temple. I counted thirty (30) rooms at the top, thirty (30) rooms below them and thirty (30) rooms below them. The wall of the temple in each group of 30 rooms was thinner than the wall below. So the floor of the room at the top could rest on the wall’s edge. They did not have to fix it to the temple wall. 7 The walls at the top of the temple were thinner than the walls below them. So the rooms at the top were wider than the rooms below them.

Against the temple walls, they had built two wide sets of stairs. One door opened into the north side rooms of the temple. And one door opened into the south side of the temple. I saw a path two and a half (2½) metres wide all round the temple. It was three (3) metres above the yard. It was as high as the lowest rooms against the temple wall. The yard was between this path and the buildings for the priests. It was ten (10) metres wide and it went along the sides of the temple. 12 A building was at the west side of the temple. It was at the far end of the yard. It measured forty-five (45) metres long and thirty-five (35) metres wide. 13 Then the man measured the outside of the temple. It was fifty (50) metres long. He measured from the back of the temple to the building’s west side. It measured fifty (50) metres. 14 He measured the space across the front of the temple. Then he measured the yard on each side. Each of these measured fifty (50) metres. 15 The building at the west, with its passages also measured fifty (50) metres. 16 They had covered the inside walls of the entrance room of the temple, the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place with wood. The wood covered the walls from the floor to the windows. They were shapes of palm trees and animals with wings. They covered all the inside walls of the temple. First they cut a palm tree then an animal, then another palm tree, and so on, all round the room. Each animal had two faces. 19 On one side, a human face looked at the palm tree. A lion‘s face looked at the tree on the other side. The walls were like this all round the room. 20 These pictures went from the floor to above the doors. 21 The bases of the pillars that were holding the doors were square. And the front of the Holy Place seemed the same.

The altar

22 There was an altar in front of the Holy Place’s entrance. They had made it out of wood. It was one and a half metres high and one metre wide. Its corners, sides and part below the top were all wooden. ‘This is the table that is in front of the LORD’, the man said to me.

The doors

23 A door opened into the passage to the Holy Place. Another door went to the Most Holy Place. 24 Both of these doors opened down the middle. 25 Men had made pictures on the doors. They were pictures of palm trees and animals with wings. They were like the shapes that they had cut on the walls. Men had put a cover over the door to the entrance room. 26 This room had thin windows in its sides. Men had cut shapes of palm trees on its walls. They had also made covers over the side rooms.
